Amit (not his real name), one of our premium subscribers, recently wrote to us with a question that many families face. He has been with HDFC ERGO Optima Restore since 2017. His family comprises his wife and two young children. He had received quotes to port his policy to Care Supreme and to ICICI Lombard Elevate, and wanted to know which he should choose.

It is a good question, because the answer is not simply a matter of buying the cheapest policy, or the one with the longest list of features. It requires understanding what one already owns, what one stands to gain and what one might lose. Here is how we evaluated Amit’s options.
